On 28 August, Anchor’s youth homelessness team came together with young people to celebrate Wear it Purple Day – creating a vibrant space focused on identity, safety, wellbeing and belonging.
With music from a DJ, fun games, plenty of food and lots of opportunities to connect, the event was a chance for young people to come together, be themselves and celebrate what makes them who they are.
For young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, having spaces where they feel safe, accepted and heard can be life-saving. Wear it Purple Day provided an opportunity for Anchor’s youth homelessness team to put that belief into action.
At Anchor, Belief means seeing the potential in young people and making sure their voices, identities and aspirations are valued. It means creating opportunities for young people to participate, have fun, build connections and shape the communities around them.
It is a reminder that supporting young people experiencing homelessness is about more than housing. Safety, connection, identity and wellbeing are all important parts of building a positive future.
For the young people who attended, Wear it Purple Day was a chance to celebrate together – but it also reflected the everyday work of Anchor’s youth homelessness team: creating supportive environments where young people can feel respected, empowered and heard.
