Youth Homelessness Matters Day is all about shining a light on the experiences of young people facing homelessness—and the structural barriers that continue to drive one of the country’s most urgent social challenges.

At Anchor, this day is an important reminder that behind every statistic is a young person with potential, resilience, and a story that deserves to be heard.

Standing alongside the sector

Anchor staff were proud to stand alongside our sector colleagues to mark the occasion, joining a shared call to elevate the voices of young people with lived experience of homelessness.

These voices are critical. They not only highlight the realities of homelessness but also offer insight, hope, and direction for how we can better support young people to build stable, independent futures.

Highlighting frontline expertise

A key moment of the event was the frontline worker session, where Anchor’s MyLife Project case manager, Faji, spoke alongside fellow practitioners from Melbourne City Mission and Hope Street Youth and Family Services.

The session highlighted the importance of recognising and sharing the positive progress young people make in their journeys out of disadvantage and homelessness. Too often, these stories go untold—but they are essential in demonstrating what is possible when the right supports are in place.

With senior Government officials in the room, including shadow minister for housing, David Southwick MP, Faji’s message to government was a simple one that resonated with the room:

“Don’t give up on the young people. Our belief in them is so important.”

It’s a message that reflects what we see every day in our work—when young people are met with consistency, care, and belief, meaningful change is possible.

A collective effort for change

We acknowledge the leadership of Council to Homeless Persons and Melbourne City Mission in bringing the sector together to mark Youth Homelessness Matters Day.

Ending youth homelessness requires sustained collaboration, investment, and a commitment to listening to those most affected.
