Anchor Community Care is committed to celebrating and recognising the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in our community, as well as the sectors in which we work.
This year, members from Anchor’s Kinship Care team attended the Melbourne NAIDOC rally in support and in solidarity of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people and First Nations people all over the world.

The Kinship team wrote about the day, saying:
“We came to walk beside the Aboriginal community and listened to how social services have impacted Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people over generations and how it impacts them now.”
“We walked in solidarity on a march through the city and listened to speeches told with love and pain, music and performances and powerful words from the younger generation. We are here to listen and to learn how to do better”.
This was the first time Anchor staff have attended the march and reflects our ongoing commitment to progressing reconciliation. Their attendance is a credit to the Kinship team’s efforts in being present and supporting reconciliation.
EMR NAIDOC Ball

Anchor staff members were also along to the EMR NAIDOC Week Ball, celebrating Aboriginal achievement and excellence in Melbourne’s East.
This is a very special night on the calendar, one that Anchor looks forward to each year. As dedicated sponsors of the event in recent years, we are enthusiastic about supporting the local network of incredible Aboriginal-owned services and organisations.
We also celebrated our very own Kinship Case Manager, Zoe Cant who received the Non-Indigenous Community Service Award. The award recognised Zoe’s work with OONAH, supporting young people and families in the community.
Zoe says the award highlights how special it is to be welcomed into and work alongside such a beautiful, resilient community.
Zoe is new to the Anchor team, and we are thrilled to have such a dedicated person committed to supporting local Aboriginal community members.
