A group of children and young people supported by Anchor’s homelessness services are about to receive a surprise that will bring smiles, confidence, and a sense of normality during a challenging time in their lives.
This week, five bicycles generously donated by XL Events arrived at our office, ready to be gifted to children and teenagers from families experiencing homelessness across Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.
Homelessness team members Talia and Gemma were on site to receive the donation, and were blown away by the generosity, and the genuine care for what Anchor does and the outcomes of the children and families that we support.
For many young people facing homelessness or housing instability, opportunities for recreation, independence, and simply being a kid can be limited. Something as simple as a bike can provide freedom, help young people stay connected with friends, encourage physical activity, and create positive memories during difficult circumstances.
The bikes, which cater to a range of ages, will soon be delivered to families supported by Anchor’s homelessness programs. Among the recipients is a young boy who will be surprised with a bike just in time for his birthday, as well as twin girls who will be thrilled to receive matching bikes so they can ride and play together.
Not only that, but the bikes also came with a trolley full of other toys and presents, all currently on their way to children who deserve all the brightness and positivity we can send them.
The donation was made possible through XL Events, an organisation that helps businesses across Melbourne build a culture of generosity through team-building activities that create meaningful social impact.
Our homelessness team knows first-hand how much a gift like this can mean to a child or young person.
We are incredibly grateful to XL Events and the businesses that contributed to making this donation possible. Their generosity is helping create brighter moments for children and families experiencing homelessness and demonstrating the powerful impact that community support can have on young lives.
