Anchor Community Care showed our thanks and appreciation for our community of foster and kinship carers at the Carer Appreciation Dinner 2026.
With over 80 people in the room, it was a night of coming together to reflect on the amazing work that our carers do for the children and young people.
Carers are the heart and soul of the child protection system. Their commitment, dedication, strength and knowledge are what make the difference for young people.
“It’s big work. Lifetime big.”
The night was MC’d by our Foster Care and Kinship Care team leaders, Ned and Edwina.

Anchor Board Chair, Dr Josh Fergeus gave his thanks and appreciation, and discussed his background as both a foster carer, and the child of foster carers.

Anchor CEO, Heidi Tucker, highlighted the role the carers have played in Anchor’s 50 year history, as well as highlighting the enormous impact that carers can have on the futures of children in care.
The truth is that your work is what keeps the out of home care sector ticking. Your commitment to supporting the children in your care is what makes the difference during a very raw and challenging time in these young lives.
But, in the midst of that, you’re there to give them a safe and caring space that they can call home and feel like they belong.
More than that, you give them yourselves – a person they can trust and be safe with.
