Anchor’s entire staff group recently came together for a private screening of The Blueprint, a powerful documentary by 16 Yards, which sheds light on youth justice reform and the urgent need for early intervention programs to support disadvantaged youth.

This compelling film amplifies the voices of young people with lived experience in the justice system and Child Protection system, sharing their stories of rehabilitation, mentorship, and breaking the cycle of crime. Through in-depth conversations, The Blueprint highlights how young men have successfully disengaged from the youth justice system in Victoria and found pathways to a better future.

Following the screening, a Q&A session with the film’s director, producer, and two of its featured participants provided firsthand insights into the realities of child protection, youth crime, and the critical role of prevention programs.

It was a privilege getting to hear their insights, wisdom and openness for discussing their journeys.

The film makes an important case for preventative programs and genuine care being provided to all young people coming through the Child Protection system.

A key theme of the event was the importance of having authentic mentors who help young people to build motivation and self-belief – and the way that this can help change the trajectory for disadvantaged young people.

We highly recommend people check out the work of 16 Yards by heading to their website.

We also extend our gratitude to the team at Metro Cinema, Boronia who hosted us on the day and made our staff event a success.
