Anchor’s vital work in providing a safe and stable place for young people to get the support they need to leave homelessness behind has been given an inspiring boost, thanks to a brilliant community partnership with OpenDoor and local businesses who have helped to transform the communal space of Anchor’s Lilydale Youth Foyer.
The Lilydale Youth Foyer provides safe, stable accommodation for young people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
It’s a place where young people can begin to heal, access support, and plan for a brighter future. Thanks to this new partnership, the foyer now features vibrant, functional new spaces that further enhance the sense of home and belonging for its residents.
The transformation project was celebrated on site last week, with upgrades to both indoor and outdoor areas. OpenDoor’s dedicated team helped install new wall units and cupboards in the shared activity space, and even added a new coffee machine to the kitchen—adding warmth and comfort to everyday life.
Outdoors, the area was completely revitalised with a brand-new BBQ setup, shaded seating, a communal table, and a productive green space complete with a veggie patch and suspended garden.
This kind of meaningful change is only possible thanks to a shared commitment to ending youth homelessness. We are incredibly grateful to the businesses that supported this project:
Together, these partners have helped create a more welcoming and functional environment for young people working hard to overcome homelessness and disadvantage.
Strong partnerships and a dedicated community of people working together to make a difference is the best tool we have in changing the lives of young people who experience homelessness and disadvantage.
This project is a clear example of how collaboration across community, business, and not-for-profits can create lasting impact and new opportunities for young people doing it tough.
