During Homelessness Week, our Anchor team had the pleasure of visiting the Yarra Valley Winter Shelter—but this time, we came bearing pizzas and cakes.
The night wasn’t about us providing direct services, but about taking a moment to say thank you to the incredible volunteers who give so much of their time, energy, and compassion to support people sleeping rough during the coldest months of the year.
The Yarra Valley Winter Shelter, operated by Stable One across the Yarra Ranges, offers a safe, warm place to sleep for people experiencing homelessness, along with a welcoming environment where guests can connect with others and enjoy a hot meal.
None of this would be possible without the commitment of the volunteers who staff the shelter night after night—ensuring that guests feel safe, cared for, and respected.
Our Homelessness Week visit was our small way of showing appreciation for this huge yearly winter time effort.
The relationship between Anchor and the Yarra Valley Winter Shelter is built on shared values—compassion, dignity, and the belief that everyone deserves a safe place to sleep and the opportunity to build a better future.
Our homelessness team plays a vital role in assessing and referring guests to the shelter, and in continuing to support them toward long-term housing solutions.
We’re proud to stand alongside the Yarra Valley Winter Shelter and Stable One in this important work. Together, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of people who would otherwise be facing the dangers of winter nights without shelter.
