During Foster Care Week, Anchor Community Care Board Chair Dr Josh Fergeus is recognising the foster carers who open their homes and lives to support children and young people.

With more than 20 years’ experience in social services and a professional background in out-of-home care, Dr Fergeus has a deep understanding of the contribution foster carers make to the lives of children and young people.

He has also completed a PhD exploring the needs of foster and kinship carers and the mental health and wellbeing of children – an area that remains central to his passion for improving outcomes for children and young people.

In his Foster Care Week message, Dr Fergeus shares his thanks to every foster carer who makes a difference through the everyday work of providing care, stability, connection and opportunity.

Foster carers play an important role in creating safe and supportive environments for children and young people who cannot live with their birth families. Their contribution extends beyond providing a home. Foster carers help children build relationships, experience stability and develop the confidence and connections they need as they grow.

For Dr Fergeus, this is more than a professional interest. His longstanding work in social services and out-of-home care has given him a strong appreciation of the commitment involved in caring for children and young people.

This Foster Care Week, Dr Josh Fergeus and the Anchor community are proud to recognise the foster carers who continue to open their doors, their homes and their hearts.

Thank you to every foster carer for the care, commitment and belief you bring to the lives of children and young people.
