Anchor is very fortunate to have a small army of people in the community who are driven to create a better world for people experiencing homelessness.
We call these people changemakers.
They have different motivations for doing the work they do, but are united by the same values of community, dedication, generosity, and empathy.
We were thrilled to see one of these Changemakers recently recognised with a highly regarded industry award.
Irene leads the Myer Eastland staff fundraising activities which have raised over $90,000 for Anchor since 2017.
Now, her dedication has been recognised on a national stage, receiving the Australian Heroes of Retail Risk – Community Hero Award. This award celebrates those who go above and beyond to help others.
The award is very deserved acknowledgement of Irene’s tireless work behind years of fundraising and support for Anchor’s homelessness services.
She also coordinates the annual Christmas hamper drive that sees incredible food hampers donated to the families in our homelessness services, brightening their Christmases and letting them know that there is a community around them who care for them.
Some of her Myer Eastland colleagues reflected on her work:
“Irene is the dedicated leader of our charity committee. When I first joined the committee, I was struck by her genuine commitment to giving back to the community.
Her never say die attitude is a true reflection of her passion and determination to make a difference for Anchor.”
“Irene is completely dedicated to caring for others and helping those less fortunate.”
You can hear from Irene herself, along with the reflections from her colleagues over on our Facebook page.
Congratulations to Irene, and the staff of Myer Eastland for their incredible work and generosity.
