Foster carer, Kym Doove was recognised for her enormous dedication and skills in the foster caring space, winning Carer of the Year at the Tilly Aston Community Awards.
The awards recognise community excellence in the Federal electorate of Aston, and were presented by Mary Doyle MP.
We were thrilled to see Kym get the recognition for her caring work.
Kym always makes herself available for any kind of foster care placement, be it short term, long term, permanent, respite or emergency – Kym has done all forms of foster care and does so with an amazing energy for getting the best results for the young people that come into her care.
Kym always goes above and beyond for providing a safe and supportive space for the children she cares for, and puts a lot of hard work into getting the little things right that make the young people feel at home.
When a young child came into her care who only knew sign language, Kym took classes prior to meeting the child so she had an ability to communicate with them.
When a child with African heritage was placed in her care, Kym took African cooking lessons to be able to provide the child with a familiar sense of home and identity.
Regardless of who they are, where they have come from, or what they have experienced, the children know that Kym will be there to support them no matter what.
She is the living and breathing embodiment of not leaving any vulnerable children behind.
Congratulations also go to Teah who is Kym’s case manager, Natasha, and the rest of the Foster care team for their work supporting Kym and her foster children over the years.
Kym was joined by three of her foster children at the awards ceremony, along with a number of Anchor staff who were along to cheer her on.
